NF Board® Receives “Kawasaki Mechanism” Certification for FY 2013

JFE Plastic Resource Corporation
January 31, 2014

NF Board®, which is a product of JFE Plastic Resource Corporation, received certification under the “Kawasaki Mechanism Certification System,” which is an effort to reduce global warming gases at the global scale being promoted by Kawasaki City.

What is the “Kawasaki Mechanism Certification System”? It is a system which enables a proper evaluation of companies in Kawasaki City by the market based on “visualization” of the actual amount of contribution of their products and technologies to the reduction of greenhouse effect gases (GHG). If the contribution to GHG reduction can be verified, the Mayor of Kawasaki City issues a Kawasaki Mechanism Certificate for the product or technology concerned. Companies which are certified under the system can offset the amount of contribution outside the city (avoided emissions) from the company's amount of GHG emissions. Kawasaki City has received high marks for this effort, and in recognition, was awarded the Chairman's Award in the “10th Life Cycle Assessment Society of Japan Commendations.”

JFE Plastic Resource's NF Board® received certification this time. This is a product in which the main component is used (waste) plastics discharged by citizens. By using NF Board® in forms for concrete construction in place of plywood, this product greatly increase the number of times that the forms can be reused in comparison with the conventional product. As a result, the fact that NF Board® can make an important contribution to CO2 reduction was highly evaluated.
